Cleaning efficency tips

As promised I will be posting general efficiency comments & tips from professional housekeepers. Do you look at your house and honestly don't know where to start? Maria's- A general rule of thumb is top to bottom. What does that mean? Start upstairs or at one end of the house & do all tasks systematically on each level. Cleaning each room separately just adds up to more minutes of cleaning drudgery. Dust every room then remove trash from the entire level etc. Mary - A magic eraser really is magic. Awesome in tubs & showers. Really shines up stainless faucets and cabinet pulls. (A word of caution from me - not to be used on stainless appliances). Lisa - Gather all supplies in advance. The simpler, the better. There really isn't a need for a lot of chemicals. Lisa uses bleach, vinegar, lemon oil & stainless steel polish to make homes beautiful. Jessica - Work in teams of two. Two people can do more together than two can do separately. |

What do you use to clean inside of your refrigerator?
I only use dish soap & water. The brand doesn't matter to me. Harsh chemicals can damage the plastics and are not recommended. Also odors from chemicals often linger and are absorbed by foods. Because refrigerators can potentially harbor many contaminants interiors should be wiped thoroughly on a weekly basis and/or whenever a spill occurs.

Do you struggle to clean dust from tight spaces in carpeted rooms? I had issues for quite some time but found a simple solution. Use a slightly damp flat mop(tap water only). Be sure to rinse your mop several times (The dirtier the area, the more rinsing required). This works well under beds along baseboards and behind headboards.

So many homes have tall or vaulted ceilings these days. Over time those beautiful expansive ceilings and walls tend to collect lots of cobwebs. An easy solution can be found in most garages. A standard shop vacuum with non flexible pipe and a brush attachment is all you need.

Blinds - How do you clean blinds? Blinds collect a lot of dust and can often be overlooked. Blinds should be cleaned at least twice a year. The method to clean them does depend on the type of dust. Regular dust -Dry dust with a dry feather duster then wipe with a damp cloth (dish soap & water). When dealing with greasy dust (such as the type commonly found in kitchens) the blinds are most effectively cleaned by taking them down & placing in a bathtub 1/2 full with hot soapy water. They will need to be agitated rinsed then hung to dry.

Even cleaning companies struggle to become eco friendly and advertise themselves as using green products and methods. However, if you clean your own house or office, it might be in your best interest to be aware of certain green cleaning tips.
